I know it may not look or feel like it out there at the moment but it is actually April which means it’s time to change our focus to all things Spring!!
One of the first Spring “things” that gets me looking forward to the season ahead is footwear. While I’m not willing to shed my (all black) layers until it hits at least 22° degrees, I will start to swap out my booties for loafers, mules and yes even sandals once we get into those double-digit temperatures. Plus, Spring shoes add a nice little pop of colour and “lightness” to those transitional not-Winter-but-not-quite-Spring outfits.
When it comes to this Spring’s footwear styles, I don’t think there are any HUGE surprises. Mules still reign supreme. As do block-heels and thick straps (although thinner strappy sandals are still around and probably always will be). The kitten heel is gaining momentum as are wedges.
Where we are seeing something new and interesting is in the material choices. Woven or braided leathers, plastics and faux animal finishes (especially snakeskin) are BIG this Spring. Don’t worry, suede is still massive.
Also new, this Spring’s shoes seem to be either bold or neutral in colour, unlike last year when pastels were a big trend (although lavender is sticking around). Mustard yellow (which to me is a very “Fall” colour) is everywhere. There is also a lot of beige, dusty rose and white. Watch for coral, bright red and neon to start popping up as well.
We’re also going to see a lot of statement-making details like fringe, embroidery and even feathers, heels that are are thicker at the bottom, and studs or chains.
So basically we’re all going to be #SteppingIntoSpring in some extremely statement-making shoes – which I’m super into.
Instead of showing my top picks like I usually do, I’m going to show one of each of this season’s top styles – because I have wayyyyy to many favourites this time around 😉 so here we go…here are some of this season’s biggest shoe trends.
From loafers to pumps to sandals, mustard is everywhere this Spring. Treat mustard like you would any other neutral and pair it with everything. It's amazing with blue (including denim), white, black, earth-tones, florals...honestly almost everything.
