Hello my name is CeeCee and I’m a cardi-aholic. I own enough cardigans to wear a different one to work every day for a month (don’t judge – that’s only like 20). I have oversized cardigans, fitted cardigans, short cardigans, long cardigans, cardigans with buttons, cardigans without buttons, black cardigans, grey cardigans, beige cardigans…you get the idea.
Putting aside my own biased feelings towards a cardigan, they really are a great way to make most looks more work-appropriate. Trousers and a camisole? Not ok for work – but throw on a fitted button-up cardigan and you’re all set! Itching to pull your favourite slipdress out of your closet? Cover up with an oversized openfront cardigan. Oh and a long cardigan instantly makes that slightly too short skirt instantly dresscode approved (depending on how strict your dresscode is, you might still want to wear tights with it).
A cardigan is also a great addition to your casual wardrobe. Pair an oversized button-up cardigan with a lace or velvet camisole and jeans for an on trend take on a basic sweater and jeans look. Or channel your inner 90s kid and pair with a skirt and combat boots.
Cardigans are also season-less in my opinion although I’m an especially huge fan of a cardi when it’s cold out. They add an extra level of warmth and coziness to any outfit, which is definitely needed this time of year. Wear them over a long-sleeved t-shirt, a turtleneck, a button-up shirt…
So, have I convinced you to buy a cardigan yet?
While cardigans have always been around in some capacity, they’re definitely enjoying a major comeback this year as part of the whole 90s throwback which means that they’re readily available everywhere. Here are some of my top cardigan picks, (because it was sooo hard to choose, I focused mainly on seasonally-appropriate cozy cardis), all available at Coquitlam Centre.
Wilfred Thais Cardigan
Wear this cropped cardigan with voluminous sleeves tucked in or out. Not digging the ultra-low cut? Slip it on over a fitted turtleneck or lacy camisole.
Available at Aritzia $138*
Core Life Heathered Boyfriend Cardigan
I don't know about you but this boyfriend-style (a.k.a. oversized) button-down cardigan screams cozy to me. Layer over a fitted top and pair with skinny jeans.
Available at Hudson's Bay $39.99*
Wrap up in this waffle cocoon-style cardigan. I tend to go oversized when it comes to cocoon-cardigans so you can really drape it around yourself.
Available at Bootlegger $59.90*
Wool Ribbed Knitted Coat
While this 100% wool sweater is probably warm enough to be worn as a coat, if you're someone who runs cold (me me!), this is the perfect cardigan for you because it keeps you warm like a coat but people won't look at you funny when you're sitting at your desk wearing it (says the girl currently wearing her puffer jacket at her desk).
Available at UNIQLO $49.90*
Fair Isle Cotton Shawl Collar Cardigan
For those of you actually looking for a boyfriend cardigan (either for you, or for your man), this fair isle print cardigan from Le Chateau is one of my top picks.
Available at Le Chateau $95*
