On Trend: Boyfriend Watches

In a world where everything is digital and our phones are never out of arms reach, watches have become more of a fashion accessory than a way of keeping track of time. Sure, once it’s on, you’ll find yourself glancing at it but let’s be honest – most of us are still more likely to grab our phones when we need to find out what time it is than to look down at our wrists. So, with that in mind, selecting a watch is now more about looks and pairing potential than it is about actual functionality (unless you’re a fitness or tech enthusiast of course).

Like all accessories watch designs are influenced by the fashion world and as such, new trends emerge. Over the past couple of years, women’s watches have undergone a bit of a makeover. Faces and bands have gotten larger while lines have become cleaner and slightly more masculine (although dainty, bracelet-style watches are still readily available).

The “boyfriend” watch, as it’s known, looks just as at home poking out from beneath an oversized sweater as it does paired with a tailored blouse and skirt. However you wear it, stacked with a couple of bracelets or on it’s own, your watch should look like you’ve grabbed it off your man’s nightstand. Go for one that’s slightly oversized but remember, the band still needs to fit.
